The mission of LAO Football is to teach through football by providing an environment where boys transformed into young men by being taught by word, definition and example the Biblical Character qualities of Loyalty, Responsibility, Courage, Determination, Decisiveness, Initiative and Orderliness while enjoying a fun and competitive sport.
All coaches strive to develop good Christian Character in their players as well as solid fundamentals of the game. Every player is guaranteed playing time. Teams are formed by players dictated by where they live or what LCMS church they are a member of. The season runs from mid-August through mid-November.
All members of the organization are volunteers, from the coaches on the field to the board of directors.
LAO has recently been granted permission to participate in the CYO Football League for the season beginning the fall of 2008. CYO stands for Catholic Youth Organization and in this case is associated with the Archdiocese of Detroit. (~including the counties of Oakland, Macomb, Monroe & Wayne).
Participation:
Participation is open to all boys who are baptized and whose families are members of an LCMS congregation or students of one of the LCMS day schools AND actively participating in Confirmation classes, Jr. Confirmation classes or equivalent. At this time participation is limited to Circuits 15-29 of the Michigan District and those congregations of the English District, Circuits 11 & 12, that are in the same geographic location as those mentioned from the Michigan District.
Team Make Up:
Due to the economic commitment of this endeavor, the variation of the interest level of any single congregation from year to year, AND the intent of LAO to build Christian friendships within and outside of ones home congregation teams will be determined based on the Circuit your congregation belongs to OR the Circuit you home address is in.
WE ARE TRYING TO BUILD A PROGRAM FROM THE GROUND UP! In year one, 2008, we are looking to field at least 1 team of 5th and 6th graders in the metro Detroit area made up of 2, 3 or more congregations. To be able to field a team in your area, we need 25 boys to fill out PRELIMINARY INTEREST form and e-mail it to info@LAOus.com (You will need Microsoft Excel to fill out form) by the end of the year 2007
Implementation Plan :
